Not suitable for radially-restricted installation space.
Type of bearing

Special non-contact CF seals are suitable to seal spindle bearings.
They have the highest efficiency in minimal installation space. The L/M or S/Sa designs are made to seal standard bearings.

Required: Metal material.
Only selectable with metal materials.
Installation space

Labyrinth seals made of metal from the L and M series achieve 1 to 4-stage labyrinths (depending on the size) in the smallest radial design space.

The CF design provides absolute leak tightness within a minimized space of 6 mm width only (all sizes) – even when the machine is stopped.

Requirements for seals
Required: Plastic material, temperature: -40° to 60°.
Only selectable with plastic materials.
Requirements

Non-contact seals work completely free of friction and wear.

They are particularly suitable for use with high RPM’s (such as in machine spindles) and in systems in which the seal friction is relevant and not desired (for example, in the electronics industry).

Friction-free operation additionally increases efficiency (no power losses). Labyrinth seals made of plastic meet the highest purity requirements (no abrasion) for the food and chemical industries.

Sealing effect
Required: Metal material.
Metallics can only be selected with metal materials.
Required: Metal material.
Only selectable with metal materials.
Sealing effect

Non-contact seals can be used against any spraying and dusting, but they cannot seal against liquid levels or differences of pressure.

For sealing against non-metallic dust, specially greased labyrinth seals made of plastic (types S and Sa) are suitable.

If the use of a contact seal is unavoidable because of liquid levels, the service life of this seal can be substantially increased by an additional non-contact seal, e.g. as a protective seal against chips.

Material
Material

GMN labyrinth seals in designs CF… S10 are made of hardened steel, normally roller bearing steel.

(Special versions of the CF design made of aluminum or uncured steel for sealing standard bearings on request)L and M GMN labyrinth seals have an inner ring made of unalloyed structural steel and an outer ring made of aluminum (GD AlSi12).

S and Sa GMN labyrinth seals are made of high-quality polyoxymethylene.

Temperature

Labyrinth seals made of plastic, models S-, and Sa can be used up to 60 °C.

GMN labyrinth seals made of metal, models CF..S10 can be used up to 170 °C.

GMN labyrinth seals made of metal, models L and M can be used up to 200°C.
