Non-contact seals are made of two rings with a special shaped profile creating a labyrinth in between. The geometric design of the labyrinth forces any contamination to several changes of its direction when trying to pass the seal. The full sealing effect is achieved at high rotation speed when some kind of air cushion in the sealing gap is created.
The rings are loosely connected in one single unit. With the assembly the rings must be centred to find the non-contact position.
Non-contact seals are the perfect solution to all high speed applications.
An additional usage which is quite common is the combination of a non-contact seal in front of a simple contact seal. The non-contact seal is protecting the contact seal from rough contamination and so the life time of the complete system could be increased.
Advantages of non-contact seals:
GMN non-contact seals are the right alternative for customer designed labyrinth seals which are expensive and difficult to produce. Our products are effective but not expensive due to the compact design and easy installation for the most applications. They are working properly independent of inner or outer ring rotation or of both parts turn.

Due to the very special production process we gain absolute identity and smooth use of the profiles of inner and outer ring, resulting in optimum sealing performance. The labyrinth seals are supplied as complete, not separable units of a steel inner ring and an aluminium outer ring with no contact after proper installation. |
