A clutch in its simplest design as insert element consists of a cage, a certain number of sprags and a spring.
The cage spreads the sprags evenly around the circumference and the spring keeps the sprags constantly in friction contact with the mating parts.
Insert elements are not self-centering and require additional bearing support for proper function.
The cages of the type 422, 453, 6203 - 6206 are made of PA. The other sizes have steel cages.
The sprags are generally manufactured from the ball bearing steel 100 Cr 6.

The correct height of the gap is an essential requirement for impeccable function. Please take notice that the correct gap height is achieved after the clutch is press-fitted according to the recommended tolerances only.
This effect is especially important for all thin-walled rings.
The special shaped meander spring provides spring loading to each single sprag. This spring system is recommended for high-frequency and precise indexing applications.
We guarantee indexing frequencies of about 60 Hz with this spring system. Please note also that we already reached frequencies of 130 Hz under perfect test conditions.

The sprags are spring loaded with a so-called Z-spring. It is a simple circular spring which is slung around all sprags through a groove in each sprag. The lower spring load results in less wear in overrunning and back stopping applications. Torque capacity is reduced by approx. 10 % compared to series FE 400.
We guarantee indexing frequencies of about 10 Hz with this spring system. Please note also that we already reached frequencies of 50 Hz under perfect test conditions.

Assembly like type series FE 400 Z, but with smaller sprags (less width) for solutions with minimum space.

The sprags are spring loaded with a so–called Z-spring (similar to FE 400 Z). These elements are mainly used for higher torque-requirements.
