Clutch selection

How to choose the perfect clutch?

The adequate choice depends on the application and on the surrounding construction.

There are several aspects to be considered:

• Available mounting space
• Torque requirement
• What fits best: complete unit or insert element?
• Are any rings (with/without keyway) required?
• External lubrication or double-sealed complete unit?
• Usage as indexing element, overrunning clutches or as backstop?

With our series 400 we are offering two different spring systems:

	Meander spring (standard)	→	to be used as indexing element or overrunning clutch
	Z-spring	→	to be used as backstop or overrunning clutch

(For Z-type spring please add suffix "Z" to your order, e.g. FE 442 Z, FR 422 Z etc.).
