In order to provide instant torque transmission the sprags have to be kept in friction contact all the time reliably with a spring system.
GMN provides two spring systems:

A special three-dimensional meander shaped spring was developed for our freewheel clutch model FE 400, also called FE 400 M. This specially shaped spring provides spring loading to each single sprag. This spring is a system recommended for high frequency and precise indexing applications. We guarantee indexing frequencies up to 60 Hz. Tests showed even frequencies up to 130 Hz under certain conditions. |
Models FE 400 Z and FE 8000 show a simple spring which is slung around all sprags led through a groove in each sprag. The lower spring loading results in less wear in overrunning and back stopping applications. We guarantee indexing frequencies up to 10 Hz. Tests showed even frequencies up to 50 Hz under certain conditions. |
Identification
The standard design of model FE 400 includes always meander spring system - suffix "M" has not to be added with your order. For Z-type spring please add suffix "Z" to your order, e.g. FE 442 Z, FR 422 Z etc.
Please note that our ball bearing sized clutches are available with Z-type spring system only.
